I received a presentation award for my research presentation at The Japanese Agricultural Education Society!
URL: https://www.iii.u-tokyo.ac.jp/news/2026101025436
For this presentation, I examined a scholarly journal on bonsai that was published in the past. Methodologically, I incorporated perspectives from scholarly communication studies in library and information science, as well as science communication studies within science and technology studies (STS)—approaches that can broadly be situated within media and communication research.
Bonsai is a cultural practice that has been shaped through the involvement of a wide range of actors, including growers, professional practitioners, scientists and researchers, and enthusiasts. Examining the structures through which knowledge is produced within such a culture is significant not only for the study of bonsai itself, but also, more broadly, for understanding how knowledge is produced, transmitted, and circulated across agriculture and agricultural science, as well as within agricultural education.

An article on bonsai has been published on cocommons, an online media platform that primarily covers the performing arts! (In Japanese only, though!)

The article is an attempt to explore bonsai as a form of “performance” in a broad sense. A second installment is also scheduled to be published soon.

今回は、採択いただいている「TTCP(Tokyo Technology Commercialization Program)」の活動の一環として、株式会社日本総合研究所様のブース内にて展示・発信の機会をいただきました。
Thank you very much for your continued encouragement and generous support.
Today, we exhibited at the Global Startup Expo held in Osaka. As part of our activities under the TTCP (Tokyo Technology Commercialization Program), we had the opportunity to showcase our initiative at the booth hosted by The Japan Research Institute, Limited.
The expo brought together global stakeholders, including investors, researchers, and entrepreneurs from Japan and abroad. We engaged in direct discussions and exchanged insightful ideas regarding our mission: bridging traditional bonsai culture and modern technology to establish a sustainable aftercare ecosystem, rooted in academic research on bonsai systematization.
Interest in the spirituality and aesthetics of bonsai across borders was remarkably high. Beyond simple technological applications, our scholarly approach to decoding the profound cultural layers and the social significance of the project received tremendous resonance and positive feedback.
Toward our goal of academically decoding bonsai culture and sharing it globally through this crowdfunding campaign, we are steadily gaining solid traction and expanding our network.
We will continue to dedicate ourselves fully to both our research and development. Thank you very much for your ongoing support and for helping us spread the word!

We had a conversation on Voicy with psychologist Jinpei Hitsuwari, whose research focuses on ikebana and haiku. He is also participating in the academist Prize 6th like us.
During the talk, he drew out a wide range of topics, from our current project to the path that led us here.

I visited the Omiya Bonsai Art Museum in Saitama for a meeting and exchanged valuable ideas regarding the JinShari app, specifically focusing on bonsai cultivation management and tree-styling conceptualization.
We also discussed our research on bonsai aesthetics related to our ongoing crowdfunding campaign, receiving precious insights on historical literature and expert interviews.
The photo shows a Boston ivy (Virginia creeper) bonsai currently on display in the museum's lobby.
