Emory大学のTammie先生に会いました
少し前ですが、Emory大学でTammie先生（米国緩和ケア学会元会長、EPEC-EM立ち上げメンバー、こちらの英語版の編集者 ) とお話しする機会をいただきました。
アメリカの緩和ケアの歴史や、ご自身が救急から緩和ケアに転向した経緯について伺いました。
Tammie先生はもともと数学の先生をされていて、その後医学部へ進学。優秀な成績を収められましたが、当時あまり立場が強くなかった救急を選択（外科を強く勧められたそうです）。そこで、「死亡告知を学んだことがないのに、しなければならない」という疑問を感じたことが、緩和ケア導入に励むきっかけになったそうです。自分も、終末期の患者に対する治療の選択に迷ったため、何とか学びたいと思ったのがきっかけであったので、「疑問は日本でも同じだな」と共感しました。
日本でも同様の課題があるため、EPEC-EMを活かしていきたいとお伝えしました。「頑張ってください！」といってもらいました！
Tammie先生はまだ日本に来たことがないとのことで、EPEC-EMを確立した暁には、ぜひ日本へお招きしたい！ これが新たな目標になりました。
