Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy

Academist Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "the Company") recognizes the importance of protecting the personal information of the users of this website and complies with the Act on the Protection of Personal Information (hereinafter referred to as the "Personal Information Protection Act"). In addition to complying with the Personal Information Protection Act, the Company will comply with the following privacy policy (hereinafter referred to as the "Privacy Policy") and will strive to handle and protect personal information appropriately. All definitions of terms appearing in the Privacy Policy are subject to the Terms of Service Agreement.

1. Definition of Personal Information

For the purposes of this Privacy Policy, personal information refers to information about a living individual as defined in the Personal Information Protection Act (name, date of birth, and other information that can identify a specific individual), information that is used in connection with a specific individual such as e-mail address, user ID, password, credit card information and others, and information that is integrated with personal information such as hobbies, family structure, age and other personal attributes.

2. Purpose of Personal Information Usage

The Company will use the users’ personal information for the following purposes.

  1. To provide information related to the Service;
  2. To confirm the identity of the user and to provide credit card authentication services;
  3. To analyze data necessary to improve services to the extent that the individual cannot be identified;
  4. To respond to after-sales service, defects, opinions, inquiries, and complaints;
  5. When a user violates the Terms of Service Agreement of the Service;
  6. To prevent users from trying to use the Service for fraudulent or unfair purposes;
  7. To distribute targeted advertising using the user's access history within the Service;
  8. To distribute newsletters and other information to members; or
  9. To contact users for press coverage, questionnaire requests, etc.

3. Changes of the Purpose of Personal Information Usage

The Company may change the purpose of personal information usage to the extent that it is reasonably recognized as having considerable relevance, and will notify the customer or make a public announcement in the event of such change.

4. Restrictions on the Personal Information Usage

The Company will not handle personal information beyond the scope necessary to achieve the purpose of use without obtaining the consent of the customer, except as permitted by the Personal Information Protection Act and other laws and regulations. However, this does not apply to the following cases.

  1. When required by law and regulations;
  2. When it is necessary to protect the life, body, or property of an individual and it is difficult to obtain the consent of the individual concerned;
  3. When it is particularly necessary to improve public health or promote the sound growth of children, and it is difficult to obtain the consent of the individual concerned; or
  4. When it is necessary to cooperate with a national agency, a local public body, or a person or organization entrusted by either of the foregoing in executing affairs prescribed by laws and regulations, and obtaining the consent of the person in question is likely to impede the execution of such affairs.

5. Appropriate Acquisition of Personal Information

The Company shall acquire personal information in a proper manner and shall not acquire such information through deception or other wrongful means. The Company pays attention not to collect personal information from children under the age of 15 without the consent of their parents or guardians.

6. Security Management of Personal Information

The Company will exercise necessary and appropriate supervision over its employees to ensure that personal information is safely managed to prevent risks such as loss, destruction, falsification, and leakage. In the event that the Company outsources all or part of the handling of personal information, the Company will exercise necessary and appropriate supervision to ensure that the outsourced company manages personal information securely.

7. Limitation of Provision to Third Parties

The Company will not provide personal information to any third party without obtaining the prior consent of the customer, except in cases where disclosure is permitted under the Personal Information Protection Act or other laws and regulations. However, the following criteria do not fall under the provision of personal information to third parties as stipulated above.

  1. When the Company entrusts personal information within the scope necessary to achieve the purpose of use;
  2. When personal information is provided in connection with the succession of business due to a merger or other reasons; or
  3. When it is necessary for the protection of a person's life, body or property and it is difficult to obtain the consent of the individual concerned.

8. Disclosure of Personal Information

When the Company receives a request from a customer to disclose personal information in accordance with the provisions of the Personal Information Protection Act, the Company will disclose the information to the customer without delay after confirming that the request is made by the customer himself/herself. If the relevant personal information does not exist, the Company will notify the customer to that effect. If the relevant personal information does not exist, the Company will notify the customer to that effect. However, this does not apply to cases where the Company is not obligated to disclose such information under the Personal Information Protection Act or other laws and regulations.

9. Correction, etc. of Personal Information

If the Company is requested by a customer to correct, add, or delete (hereinafter referred to as "correct") the content of the personal information on the grounds that it is untrue, the Company will, upon confirming that the request is made by the customer, conduct the necessary investigation without delay to the extent necessary to achieve the purpose of use. Based on the results of the investigation, the Company will correct the content of personal information and notify the customer to that effect. If the Company decides not to correct the content of personal information, the customer will be notified to that effect. However, this does not apply in cases where the Company is not obligated to correct under the Personal Information Protection Act or other laws and regulations.

10. Suspension of Personal Information Usage

In the event that the Company is requested by a customer to suspend the use or erase (hereinafter referred to as "suspend the use") of the customer's personal information based on the provisions of the Personal Information Protection Act on the grounds that the customer's personal information is being handled beyond the scope of the purpose of use announced in advance or that the information was acquired through deception or other wrongful means, the Company will suspend the use of personal information without delay after confirming that the request is made by the customer himself/herself, and notify the customer to that effect. However, this does not apply to cases where the Company is not obligated to suspend the use of personal information under the Personal Information Protection Act or other laws and regulations.

11. Use of Cookies and Other Technologies

The Company's Service may use cookies and similar technologies. Users who wish to disable cookies can do so by changing the settings of their web browsers. However, if you disable cookies, you may not be able to use some of the functions of the Service.
