4回目の調査は海況不良で中止になりました
4回目の調査のため10月18日～23日の期間に小笠原へ行きましたが、海況が悪く、小型船による調査は実施できませんでした。
過去には10月にオガサワラヒメミズナギドリの観察事例があることから、冬季の繁殖に向けて繁殖地周辺に集まり始めているのでは、と推測しています。しかし、今回は往復の定期船おがさわら丸からもオガヒメの確認には至りませんでした。
これでは何も書くことがなくなってしまいますので、オガヒメ以外の成果を1つ報告したいと思います。
小笠原諸島で繁殖する海鳥にアナドリという小型のミズナギドリ類がいます。10月はちょうど本種の巣立ち時期に当たり、今回は巣立ちしたばかりの幼鳥を見ることができました。10月に小笠原を訪れるバードウォッチャーはとても少なく（私自身も10月は初めての渡航でした）、本種の日本の繁殖個体群の幼鳥がどのような羽衣であるのかは知られていませんでした。今回その姿を観察したところでは、中央太平洋の個体群よりも翼帯（翼上面に見られる淡褐色の帯）に白色みがないことが分かりました。その写真をここに貼っておきます。
次回は来年（2025年）3月末～4月上旬にオガヒメ調査の実施を予定しております。
